“SURROUNDINGS” Fartlek Session

Yes fartlek does sound funny but it’s just the Swedish word for “speed play,” and that is exactly what this type of run is all about. Unlike tempo and interval work, fartlek is unstructured and alternates between moderate to hard efforts with easy efforts throughout.

So here’s the plan…

After 15 minutes of warm-up jogging and dynamic stretches pick a landmark in the distance—this can be a telephone pole, postbox, a tree, a building, etc, and run to it at a faster pace.

Once you have reached it, slow down and recover with your normal running pace for as long as you need (just don’t fully stop), then find a new landmark and speed it up again.

Keep in mind that there are no rules here, so run on feel as you go along. Aim for 30 mins of Fartlek running followed by 15 mins of cool down and stretching.

and a bit of fun too

Yes the running is going to be fun but we’ve also put together a Lockdown 3.0 Scavenger Hunt! These don’t need to be ticked off all in one go, so save some throughout lockdown, and get as many points as you can by the end.
