We know you’re missing our Striders sessions… and we’re missing you too, but it’s been great keeping in touch on our Whatsapp and Facebook Groups and seeing how you’re getting on during lockdown.
It’s not always easy finding the motivation to run so here are couple of training suggestions for this week (Mon 16th – Sun 22nd Nov), one fun and one a bit more performance focused.
Please be aware these aren’t official Striders sessions, just ideas for you to do, so there’s no obligation and should you take part then please follow all the current safety precautions and government guidelines.
Daylight Scavenger Hunt
Starting Point: Entrance Gate to Cricket Pavilion on Beech Avenue,
Run along Beech Avenue with play area on left to next pink ribbon.
Turning left here to follow footpath down towards ‘muddy’ Larkey Valley Wood.
Continue following the pink ribbon route.
Look out for the darker pink ribbons holding the scavenger hunt clues for items to be found along your way.
Follow the ribbons and finally looping back for final return to Entrance Gate.
Make sure you post your photo proof on the Facebook or Whatsapp group for a chance to win a prize!
The mile challenge!
Warm up as you usually do, a gentle jog for a mile will help.
Then it’s the 1 mile challenge. Run 1 mile on a route of your choice as fast as you can. Record your time.
Warm down properly.
We shall repeat this in 4 weeks time to see how you are improving over that month. You’ll need to run the same route in order to compare times.
Keep safe
As well as the familiar ‘Hands. Face. Space’ messaging it’s also worth thinking about your personal safety as you may be running alone, with fewer people around, and in poor light.
Tell someone where you’re going and take a mobile. Did you know you can also share your ‘live location’ on whatsapp? This allows the recipient to check where you are until you stop sharing.
Ditch the headphones. Or at least lower the volume. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings, both people and vehicles.
Be visible. This includes bright clothing as well as body/head torches as mornings and evenings get dark quickly.
