Lockdown 2 Statement

Given the recent announcement by the UK Government to introduce new national restrictions in England from 5th November 2020 Stour Striders training sessions will be cancelled until further notice.

The ‘lockdown’ is currently in place until Wednesday 2 December.

Can I still run? Yes!

Whilst there are many restrictions to reduce day-to-day contact with other people and the spread of the infection you are still able to exercise outdoors on your own, with people you live with, or, when on your own, one person from another household.

People are allowed to leave their home for outdoor exercise as many times per day as they want and for as long as they want, contrasting with the “once a day” rule of the spring lockdown. But please avoid unnecessary travel and only make short journeys if needed.

Keep safe

As well as the familiar ‘Hands. Face. Space’ messaging it’s also worth thinking about your personal safety as you may be running alone, with fewer people around, and in poor light.

Tell someone where you’re going and take a mobile. Did you know you can also share your ‘live location’ on whatsapp? This allows the recipient to check where you are until you stop sharing.

Ditch the headphones. Or at least lower the volume. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings, both people and vehicles.

Be visible. This includes bright clothing as well as body/head torches as mornings and evenings get dark quickly.

What next?

The run leaders are already thinking of some fun things for you all to do safely during lockdown so watch this space and social media. In the summer it was bingo… so what next?
